You’re probably right in assuming that Club Royale is actually more club than restaurant---the name’s a big tip-off---but with talented executive chef Andre Christopher (Pops for Champagne, Japonais) at the helm there’s more going on at this West Loop nightspot than just some tasty creative cocktails. Catering to an over-35 demographic---yes, that does mean you can actually hear what your companions are saying over the soft house music---the lounge sports sleek leather booths and walls covered with Italian onyx slabs. The Western Japanese cuisine highlights dishes such as tuna sashimi drizzled with flavorful sesame oil from the crudo list and tuna tempura and oysters “rockafella” with a lightly spicy spinach hollandaise from the hot side of the menu. The nicely frenched lamb chops show off the chef’s training. Pair the small plates with a selection of bubbly cocktails or go all-out and order a bottle of Champagne from its extensive list.
