The casual, friendly atmosphere at Crest Café is a nice fit for the hearty American fare from chef and owner Kyle Davis. Davis and co-owner Lisa Livingston have created an upscale café menu at affordable prices, featuring house-made ingredients and local breads, that culls many area denizens for breakfast, lunch and afternoon coffee and cookie breaks. Crest is the perfect stop before hitting the slopes for a day of skiing or the trails for some mountain biking --- the Western States Trail is only steps away. Fuel up with the hearty breakfast burrito with a choice of meaty fillings or the veggie chili made from the closely guarded secret recipe. For a quick repast at lunch, order the trail lunch to go (advance orders only) or linger on the deck overlooking the Truckee River with oven-baked meatball grinders, ciabatta panini or pizzas slathered with marinara. Davis’ talents shine in creations such as the Asian tri-tip mango wrap and the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Grab a stool at the counter and a $1.50 draft PBR (yes, on draft) to wash it down and share stories of the day’s adventures with the locals.
