Deetjen's Big Sur Inn Restaurant Review:
Deetjen's Big Sur Inn was built in the 1930s and is operated by a nonprofit preservation foundation whose staff is proud of the venue's heritage and Big Sur quirkiness. Bring your friends for Sunday breakfast, but know that they do mean "breakfast" --- the meal is finished by 12:30 p.m. on weekends, noon on weekdays. Food is sourced locally and organically whenever possible, and savory items dominate the breakfast menu. Benedicts ooze eggy goodness, and the menu lists 10 different ingredients for customizing pleasure. Hearty huevos rancheros are enough to make any ranch hand happy, and the black beans are freshly prepared. While the setting is rustic, the dinner menu is packed with luxe options including a fish of the day with truffled potatoes. And bonus --- your phone is almost 100-percent guaranteed not to ring.
