: It’s called a diner, but with its comfortable booths and full bar (with stools) in the back, this place could pass for a more upscale restaurant. The menu, too, suggests something more elitist than your local neighborhood eatery. How often do diners serve Asian plum calamari salad, grilled salmon filets with herb butter or chipotle baby-back ribs? There is also a lovely rosemary roasted chicken with darkly crisped skin and loads of herb flavor. You will find casual fare from burgers and hot dogs to meatloaf and macaroni and cheese, from hand-cut onion rings and chili to grilled cheese and BLT sandwiches. An intensely rich and moist chocolate cake is an ideal dessert. Since The Diner is always open, breakfasts are big deals here, and are as eclectic as the rest of the menu. There are eggs plain or as omelets, jumbo pancakes and croque monsieur with ham, béchamel sauce and melted cheese and croque madame with a fried egg. |
