Finding Northern-style dim sum is a rarity in the metro area, which is one reason to beat a path to this Gaithersburg place. Another is its bargain-basement prices: Three big appetites can eat for about $30, including course-after-dim sum-course. Unlike its Cantonese counterpart, Northern dim sum does not come on carts, but rather is listed on a menu. Several orders of the Chinese crullers, the wand-like doughnuts Chinese breakfasters dunk into hot soy milk, were followed randomly by turnip cakes and taro cakes, flaky flat breads, and hot and spicy sesame noodles. The meal was finished with cold noodles in hot and sour sauce, a scallion pancake and a sesame bread. But be warned: Don't let your appetite outrun your pocket book: No charge cards here!
