THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED eat Restaurant Review:
Owner Charlie Robinsons pint-sized restaurant in Somerville comes up roses when it comes to comfort food. With chef Michael Burgess (a Hamersleys Bistro alum) in the kitchen, wedding the wonder of dining out with feeling like youre right at home has never seemed so easy. The food at eat is a portrait of millennial America, equal parts urbane sophistication, casual worldliness and down-home charm. Braised beef short ribs are lush, hearty and flanked by chow foon noodles. Seared sea scallops gain profundity from the presence of a potato cake and bacon. Pork tenderloin is a Southerners Sunday dinner when plated with grits and wilted mustard greens. And what about those of us whose memories of childhood mealtimes are confined to Chinese take-out? Fear not: Burgess even serves an appetizer of Chinese spareribs. Ask about the guest chef dinners on Monday; theyre the stuff of local legend and a training ground for cooks looking to open their own place.
