: Chef Eric Williams (Momocho, Happy Dog) brings his passion for modern Mexican cuisine to Lakewood. The restaurant itself is cavernous and boisterous with seating options that range from booths and bars to tables and high-tops. Luchadores masks adorn the walls, along with other trademark tchotchkes. More streamlined than Momocho, the menu focuses on small bites, tamales, taquitos and antojitos (meaning “little cravings"). There are plenty of choices for vegetarians as well as a dedicated, gluten-free menu with loads of tasty picks. Start with any of the guacamoles, especially the goat cheese version, with tomato and chile poblano. From there, the taquitos are a natural choice. We like the coffee and ancho-braised beef brisket, the pork belly and the duck confit. Each is served with a box of warm, soft corn tortillas so you can fill them to your heart’s content. (Tip: Save some guacamole from your appetizer course to go with.) El Carnicero’s full bar features a bevy of fresh-made margaritas that change frequently. Go with the margarita flight to sample the latest mixes. Desserts are limited, but they are well-made if you crave something sweet. |
