: There are sandwiches, and then there are sandwiches. The pressed Cubans (or Cubanos) from this frills-free stand fall into the latter camp, with crackly, crusty bread encasing tender pork, ham, a gooey Swiss cheese core and smattering of pickles. It truly is a thing of beauty. But you really don’t want to skip the steak sandwich, with its swath of mustardy mayo, either. Get it with a side of papitas (chips) and a cup of cafe con leche, doled out by a chatty, charming staff. Then, grab one of the stools, or exit the graffiti-marked stand to indulge in your car, like most regulars do. |
