: Desert dwellers have enjoyed three decades of dining at this favorite Mexican outpost where the Castaneda family welcomes guests daily. Patriarch and chef Felipe Castaneda draws on his upbringing in Tepechitlan, a small ranching town in Zacatecas, Mexico. From crate to plate, everything is prepared with thought, consistency and passion. Favorites include chile verde, shrimp pipian, and pollo en mole poblano --- the restaurant’s top-selling dish. We also recommend the traditional chicharron, or crispy pork rinds, in a tomatillo sauce. Plenty of heart-healthy dishes are available, too, including some vegan options like the tasty spinach enchiladas. Ask about specials that aren’t on the regular menu. In particular, don’t miss the crab enchiladas if they’re on offer; they are subject to seasonal availability. Also located at 266 E. Via Altamira, Palm Springs, 760-459-3136. |
