El Novillo Restaurant Review:

El Novillo, meaning “steer” in Spanish, is all about beef. The busy restaurant has a Spanish colonial look and specializes in big plates of lean center cuts of beef that are butterflied before grilling. Start with vigoron, a mix of pork cracklings and yuca with cabbage slaw in tangy tomato vinaigrette. Groups can share platters of repochetas (grilled cheese-stuffed corn tortillas) or mini beef tacos with sour cream and slaw. For those seeking full meals, steaks outshine seafood here, particularly the tenderloin churrasco, served with chimichurri, tomato and onion sauce, and spicy pickled onions. Most entrées come with a house salad, garlic bread, gallo pinto (rice and beans), and choice of plantain preparation (fried sweet plantains, smashed and fried tostones, or chips). You can’t go wrong with coffee and caramel flan. Executive lunches offer churrasco at budget prices. Also located at 15450 New Barn Rd., Miami Lakes, 305-819-2755.
