THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Elaine Restaurant Review:
Chef-owner Ted Cizma hit a home run with the former Grace on West Randolph Street. His new restaurant, which is situated in an old house smack downtown in Naperville, has seen a number of name changes in the past five years. The old house arrangement doesnt do diners any favors (upstairs and downstairs dining rooms, low ceilings), but Cizmas cooking is most favorable. We were totally impressed with the veal chop, a two-inch-high beauty that is arranged with bits of apples and sorrel, tasso and foie gras; its outstanding in every way. Also, the nutty- and sweet-tasting crab cakes are lovingly paired with rock shrimp and spicy corn chowder. Chef Cizma is noted for his game preparations, and a special not-to-be-missed is venison with a demi-glace which changes with his mood. A fine meal-ender here would be the buttermilk panna cotta with dried blueberry-licorice sauce. Service is attuned to whats going on in the kitchen. However, gaffes such as red wine served at bath-water temperature still occur.
