THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Embeya Restaurant Review:

Dubbed as “progressive Asian,” this collaboration between Attila Gyulai (Elysian, Four Seasons) and chef Thai Dang (Ria, L20) is set within a sleek, 555 International-designed space in the West Loop. Its equally stylish plates --- green papaya, cilantro, crispy shallots and nubs of beef jerky; “sea snails” and pork, augmented by lemon grass and black garlic --- cater to a foodie crowd. Whether small or large, though, these dishes don’t always live up to the hype --- or the standards you’d expect. Take the dish of scallop with shimeji, saké and soy: it’s beautiful, yet it doesn’t totally wow flavor-wise. Finales include the likes of cardamom-scented sticky rice with cured mango and tofu crème caramel. Jackfruit and longan, too. For something casual, consider coming for “Simple Sundays,” when a meal of shareable hot and cold plates is $29 per person or $50 paired with wine. As for drinks, look for funky, Asian-tinged cocktails to dominate.
