![]() : Things haven't changed much over the years at Escape from New York Pizza. The signature offerings are still thin-crusted pies with red sauce, ample mozzarella and straightforward toppings. Olives, pineapple or Canadian bacon are about as exotic as it gets. There’s nothing seasonal or sustainable here, and the closest things get to “green” are the pepper slices on top of the veggie pie. But this is a place where diners in the know opt for a simple cheese or pepperoni pizza, and turn off their cell phone while ordering or expect to be loudly pushed to the back of the line. Many pizzas are available by the slice, but don't attempt to order ranch dressing on your salad. The counter eating area is crowded and not particularly aesthetic, but then, this could describe parts of metro Manhattan. |
