THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Espoleta Restaurant Review:

Sue Torres, who made a name for herself at now-defunct Mexican eatery Suenos, is the chef at this Spanish restaurant on the Bowery. A bar area gives way to a casual but elegant dining room. The menu is mostly tapas and mostly straight-up, the chef doing little to reinvent the wheel. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Classics from cod croquettes to large-portioned patatas bravas to ultra-garlicky shrimp al ajillo are not revelatory but solid and well-executed. There is little in the way of dessert. The good wine list is mostly Spanish and more economically feasible by the bottle than the glass.
