Sleek and sophisticated are not two words generally applied to Ethiopian restaurants, which usually get their atmosphere from ethnic décor such as large enamel basins for serving food. All that changes with Etete, a place that looks as good in its U Street neighborhood as it might downtown. But in buffing-up the ambience, the kitchen has lost some of this wonderful African food’s powerful, sensory-jolting edge.
