Situated in north St. Helena at the esteemed Cairdean Estate, this hip brasserie combines contemporary British fare with wine country flair. Warm oak-paneled walls, leather banquettes and checkered floors surround the gastropub’s lively centerpiece: an inviting brass bar showcasing bottles of varying shapes and colors. Menu items include Scotch eggs and fried pickles but also carry the pub traditions further. Foodies will like the juicy duck wings rubbed with smoked paprika, mustard and sugar cane. Not to be missed are the buttery egg popovers fresh out of the oven every 30 minutes, served with apple-ginger butter. Whisky-cured salmon on Scottish beer bread gives any bruschetta a run for its money. For a refreshing dessert try the Cairdean Vineyards harvest sorbets --- each scoop infused with the estate’s Viognier, Pinot Noir or Merlot and served on a barrel stave. The Farmer & The Fox boasts an extensive cocktail program, Napa and French-focused wines and no corkage fee on the first BYO bottle.
