Tucked away on the sleek bottom floor of Barneys New York, this Tuscan-style eatery caters to ladies who lunch --- and anyone else with hunger pangs. The spot is named after Fred Pressman, the son of the founder of Barneys New York. For brunch, look for huevos rancheros. Delightful appetizers include plates of sautéed organic chicken livers with shallots and port sauce on crostini, and grilled hen-of-the-woods mushrooms over arugula salad. Entrées range from Tuscan pot roast to pizza with prosciutto and arugula and salad with tuna and veal Milanese. And for the finale there's warm Valrhona chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream --- perhaps best only sampled and not fully feasted upon before hitting the dressing rooms upstairs. Fred's makes a mean classic Manhattan, and a decent selection of wines by the glass includes Sancerre, Provence Rosé and Mendoza Malbec.
