: When we want to feel like we're dining in Paris, we meet friends for brunch at The French Gourmet. Classical music, hand-painted murals, fresh flowers and intimately placed tables provide the setting for romance. Brunch specialties include onion soup, house-baked croissants and brioche, and Blini à la Russe: buckwheat crêpes with caviar, sour cream, chives, hard-cooked eggs, plum tomato slices, red onion and cucumber. The café also custom-roasts its own coffee. The dinner menu features classics of the French repertoire, including bouillabaisse, coq au vin and red snapper en papillote. The in-house pastry chef excels in her preparation of tartlets and cakes; desserts include a choice of soufflés (chocolate, Grand Marnier or chestnut), Strawberries Romanoff and profiteroles in a warm chocolate sauce. In a unique twist, The French Gourmet, which began as a bakery and pastry shop, now prepares baked goods by special order. Beverages include a vast selection of all-natural French syrups, including black currant (cassis), blue Curaçao (tropical orange), almond (orgeat) and pistachio. The wines by the glass are limited but nice; meanwhile, the cocktail menu includes the violet martini, Grey Goose and Noilly Prat. Beer options are few but available. In European tradition, The French Gourmet is closed from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. |
