Tucked away on a sedate corner on an Irvington street, a stone’s throw from a cluster of other restaurants, Fuffi manages to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack. The reason? Its cuisine. Next is the service. There is only one exuberant waitress on duty, though you would never know it judging by her attentiveness. Quirky and offbeat best describe the look and feel of Fuffi, beginning with the step down into this low-ceilinged hideaway of a restaurant. We recommend the endive salad with horseradish mustard dressing. The biggest surprise is the steak au poivre with portobello mushroom sauce. This 22-ounce steak refuses to be bullied by some of the big boys on the Westchester steakhouse circuit. If that alone is not worth the trip, the value-minded weekday prix-fixe that features a rib-eye, an appetizer, dessert and a drink certainly is. In the end, Fuffi is a guilty pleasure, a restaurant you are afraid to admit you love.
