Gar Woods Restaurant Review

: The restaurant takes its name from Garfield Wood, who designed many of the gleaming mahogany pleasure crafts that once carried Tahoe gentry as they swanned about the lake. Wooden boats still dock at Gar Woods’ pier in summer, heightening the feeling of being at a watery country club. Patrons come for straightforward fare such as steamed clams, Dungeness crab cakes, lobster bisque, braised short ribs and light but substantial orange-soy-glazed ahi. A lovely brunch buffet is served on Easter, Mother’s Day and in the summer. The two major draws are the large deck overlooking the lake and the tasty --- but lethal --- Wet Woody cocktail. The uninspired wine list offers familiar bottles, but there’s always the view.
