THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Giancarlo's Restaurant Review:
When the restaurant’s namesake manned the kitchen, Giancarlo’s was one of the South Bay’s best Italian restaurants and a true hidden gem. When he moved to Arizona he sold the place to his longtime sous chef and the food has stumbled a bit since. The surf ‘n’ turf special may be a tasteless, overcooked filet mignon and a small, mushy lobster tail. Traditional dishes that remain from the original menu fare better---pennette con salsiccia with spicy Italian sausage and mushrooms; spaghetti puttanesca alla Napoletana with salty bits of anchovy; eggplant Parmesan with golden slices of fried eggplant layered beneath fresh tomato sauce and gooey mozzarella. The enclosed patio out back is still one of the most charming and romantic dinner spots in Morgan Hill, replete with twinkling white lights, and some good bargains can be found on the wine list. Service is not topnotch but it is friendly.
