THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED GiGi Asian Bistro Restaurant Review:
HURRICANE KATRINA: this establishment is currently closed. For a New Orleans Travel Update as well as resources, information and help click here. GIGI ASIAN BISTRO IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. A free-thinking little restaurant in residential Mid-City, GiGi looks like a sandwich shop from the outside, feels like an artist's cabin inside and smells just like what it is---a neighborhood Asian café utilizing payloads of fresh ginger, Thai basil and coconut milk. For appetizers, try pitting the Thai fried spring rolls (cabbage and ginger dominate the filling) against the Vietnamese fried spring rolls (basil gives them an anise kick); or try the fried chicken wings stuffed with a shrimp and pork forcemeat. To describe GiGi as quirky would be putting it lightly. Service is sweet but often flaky, and the wall air conditioning unit doesn't quite cut it during the summer months. Fortunately, everything is so reasonably priced we did a double-take. Single servings of Thai beef basil, lemon grass pork chops and sesame chicken all go for a mere $5.95; even the larger sized entrées are economical.
