THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Good Measure Restaurant Review:

About owner Matthew Kaner: Affable sommelier Matthew Kaner is behind this casually elegant wine bar and restaurant in Atwater Village. Fans have followed him here from one of Los Feliz’ most popular spots, Covell, but he’s made this restaurant a more serious contender by bringing chef Mike Garber (Grace, AMMO) onboard to create an accomplished, elevated dining experience built around a rocking good wine list.

The décor: The spacious dining room with sage tones, a checkerboard floor, spare modern furniture and street-view plate glass windows suits this laid-back yet hip neighborhood. An arresting modern mural of Bacchus overlooks a good-looking set of Eastsiders who come to dine and hang out at the wine bar. There’s also a smaller, dedicated sommelier’s bar that hosts bespoke tastings. It’s romantic enough for date night, but casual enough for friends and family too.

Likes: Matthew Kaner’s well-curated wines and expertise.
Dislikes: Weekend parking.

Food & Drinks: Start a meal over a glass of bubbly and grazing on Cal-Med epicurean “snacks” and appetizers like crispy pork rillettes with rhubarb mostarda, chickpea fries with harissa and yogurt, or a lovely albacore conserva with fennel. Vegetarians find many options, ranging from standout roasted baby carrots and sunchokes bathed in a piquant carrot top salsa verde with pistachio, to a hearty shaved cauliflower salad tossed with turnip, radish and an olive bagna cauda. For main dishes, don’t miss savory lamb belly on polenta, offset with preserved lemon, mint and mustard greens, or sautéed scallops complemented by heirloom melon and purslane. The whole experience is elevated by Kaner’s thoroughly compelling collection of wines --- he travels around the world curating this list which truly showcases his passion. He loves to share his knowledge, so avail yourself of his suggestions and you might end up with a pretty skin-contact Solminer Grüner Veltliner from Los Olivos, an Alain Graillot Syrah Crozes-Hermitage from Rhône Valley, or any number of interesting finds from California, France and Italy as well as some from Morocco, Mexico, Georgia and Hungary. The list rotates, and rarer wines will be hard to find again. Ask for a dessert wine recommendation to go along with the seasonal flaky fruit crostada made with mascarpone and local honey, or a more decadent chocolate pot de crème.
