Goolsby's Restaurant Review:

Owner Richard Goolsby grew up in nearby Lincolnton, where the family store still stands. In Evans, Goolsby's simple cafeteria-style operation showcases art by Lincolnton's favorite self-taught artist and native son Leonard Jones, who paints cheerful memory scenes on corrugated roofing tin. Goolsby knows what Southern food tastes like and successfully reproduces those flavors. We fell hard for the roasted pork loin, and then followed it (not on the same visit) with the fried chicken, fried shrimp and catfish, pulled pork, smoked chicken and ribs, the latter graced by a dry Memphis-style rub. Sides we've enjoyed include the pecan-studded sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole, fresh cabbage, mac 'n' cheese and the flat corn cakes. Do not miss the peach cobbler. No alcohol is served, so opt for the very fine sweet tea. Also located at 500 Oxbow Rd., Grovetown, 706-432-6296.
