Grille 700 at the Marriott Waterfront obviously sees itself as a downtown player, not just a meal service for hotel guests; nicely-selected American classics with fresh, bold flavors appear on these plates. Many of the ingredients originated at local farms, and the produce is organic whenever possible. Beginnings include a salad made from roasted seasonal heirloom squashes and a tasting plate of local cheeses; entrées such as mussels in Natty Boh broth and seared Duroc pork chop with smoked apple purée and braised kale are hearty yet sophisticated. The restaurant’s interior, too, is engaging. Airy, high-ceilinged, and with an abstract waterfront motif befitting its location, it offers tables spaced properly for conversation. Servers are knowledgeable and well-trained.
