Guaca Mole Cocina Mexicana Restaurant Review:

Arrive early if you don’t want to wait for a meal at the justifiably popular Guaca Mole. Thanks to the efficient service, tables do turn quickly. Décor is lively with red and purple walls decorated with brightly painted wooden lizards and frogs and Day of the Dead masks. The busy central bar dispenses a wide selection of tequilas, as well as draft Mexican cervezas. Start with chicken or pork pozole, its guajillo pepper broth packed with meat, hominy and onions. Flautas are stuffed with duck confit. Of course, there is guacamole, made to order. In addition to traditional, there are versions with added grilled corn or pepitas and pork rinds. Free-range chicken or seared scallops are the moles served with rice, refried black beans and plantains. Equally tasty are the camarones a la Diabla, fiery grilled shrimp dressed with lobster sauce and accompanied by corn tortillas. There’s a good selection of burritos and enchiladas for the less adventurous. Portions are large; if you have dessert, the mango cheesecake is light.
