THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gypsy Soul Restaurant Review:

Chef RJ Cooper is behind the stove and directing the kitchen at Gypsy Soul, situated within the Mosaic District in Falls Church. It joins there a multitude of eateries, but its glam corner location with its wraparound glass windows that showcase pedestrians as well as patrons certainly sets it apart. Settling on a specific starter or entrée could be a challenge, so ask the knowledgeable waitstaff about best bets. A likely recommendation is the crispy chicken skins, and don’t bypass the devilled eggs and the pimento cheese with accompanying crackers. A section of the menu is dedicated to "Soul Signatures," including the standout Southern fried chicken. If you are devoted to this dish, you should enjoy it for dinner: a half chicken, with a boned breast and thigh pieces, is coated in a delectable, crunchy crust and served piping hot with mashed potatoes and sautéed kale with bacon. It is really finger food of the best kind, and you may need several napkins. The shrimp and grits is also a winner, as are the Gypsy Soul burger with sides of pickled grilled onion and the steak frites. For sweets, as usual Cooper goes outside the box with a buttermilk panna cotta and a red velvet cake with sour cream ice cream, among others. Selections can change regularly due to season and availability. Note that brunch presents many of the same dinner items, and kids have their own options. Check out the interesting wine and drinks offerings, too.
