This big, almost windy place produces some of the best Korean food in Portland. This cuisine is notoriously hot, so bring your private fire extinguisher or prepare to quaff lots of beer and water. The restaurant provides many little plates as appetizers---wonderful tidbits that include seafood salads, kim chee preparations, spinach and bean thread salads, etc. The menu is an excursion through the classic dishes of Korean cooking, including the fabulous thin-sliced beef dishes, barbecued short ribs laced with ginger and garlic, the bubbling and huge spicy soups crammed with denizens of the deep or with oxtails, and braised vegetables with pork and sesame seeds. While luscious vegetables show up throughout the menu, this is a very protein-heavy cuisine, so save room for seriously hearty eating. To insure that you won’t go hungry, Koreans tend to put everything on the table at once: rice, soup, fish, chicken, beef, vegetables, kim chee, and sauces. The pileup is impressive, and if you want an inflammatory groaning board, this is your place.
