Harley Restaurant Review

About the restaurant & décor: This downtown Laguna Beach restaurant completely understands the juxtaposition that exists within the famed seaside city. Elegant light fixtures, light woods, and an intimate dining space deliver coastal refinement, while the compact bar area and just-loud-enough blasts of toe-tapping music uphold Laguna’s unpretentious, neighborly vibe. Executive chef/owner Greg Daniels deftly unites this duality through a rustic-tinged farm-to-table culinary motif that constantly achieves nuanced sophistication through restraint.

Likes: The music choice and volume.
Dislikes: The main dining space is narrow.

Food & Drinks: Daniels’ liberal use of nearby-sourced products shines in simple, delicious dishes like the halloumi cheese fried in locally-produced aquavit or the fresh plate of local raw, pickled and fermented vegetables. His knack for coaxing big flavors out of carefully curated components comes through in mains ranging from hearty fare such as the wood-grilled, carrot-fed New York steak to approachable offerings like the show-stopping burger --- a must-have for any self-respecting burger fan. Desserts like the pecan pie with tallow rye crust and honey ice cream are essential to the experience. The venue stocks its wine list with international and boutique selections, and the craft cocktails are complex yet easy-drinking. Duck confit hash and drop biscuits with house-made sausage gravy are among brunch items served up on weekends.
