The Kimpton Group has bestowed many stellar eateries upon the national dining scene, but this is its only San Jose venture. A chic, sophisticated destination within The Cypress Hotel, it serves contemporary American and Continental cuisines with the occasional Pan-Asian foray. Offerings range from a stuffed portobello mushroom to pan-seared filet steak to a lunchtime Chinese chicken salad. A three-course prix-fixe menu is offered to theater patrons on their way to see the evening show. Helios' wine list is extensive, and its bar menu offers plenty of pricey snack items like grilled asparagus and shrimp spring rolls. Even if you don't fancy mixed drinks, you've got to admire its bartenders for coming up with specialty cocktails in almost every color of the rainbow.
