THIS RESTAURANT IS NOW A PRIVATE EVENT SPACE Hickory Restaurant Review:
Hickory has a sports bar theme bolstered by a menu of down-home Texas barbecue. Located off the Dallas North Tollway in Plano’s Shops at Granite Park, the 6,500-square-foot space features large TV screens tuned to game-day match-ups and high-top tables or banquettes for indoor seating; the outdoor patio, flanked by a centerpiece fireplace, is surrounded by picnic tables for chilling. Nobody leaves hungry as the offerings zigzag from smoked brisket and ribs to pork shoulder. All the meat is smoked on premises in the Little Red Smokehouse cooker and there are plenty of sauces for pairing. Non-barbecue aficionados have a choice of burgers, smoked turkey breast and tacos. Side dishes vary from Granny Smith apple coleslaw to waffle-cut Maytag blue cheese fries. (Former chef Kent Rathbun has relinquished his day-to-day activities at the restaurant.) Save room for the skillet cobbler or Maw Maw’s buttermilk pie. The folks behind the bar mix original cocktails, including the Deep Eddy ruby red grapefruit concoction, while whiskey flights and craft beers, including Texas brews, share space alongside a small wine list.
