: Evening diners soak up the warmth of the open kitchen's wood-burning grill --- near handy shelves of large jar spices and bookmarked cookbooks --- while relaxing with fresh-baked levain and house-made butter. A short menu promises ever-changing dishes that build on and complement one another. Cuisine draws on the freshest local components and the inspiration of Fred and Elizabeth Sassen, who possess upscale restaurant accomplishments (Farallon for both, Camino for Fred and Waterbar for Elizabeth) and farm-based backgrounds. Celebrating early summer, a grilled shrimp with sweet corn and zippy cilantro leads to a fried soft shell crab lifted with cool tomato and cucumber. Then a crescendo of pork loin cooked in the fireplace nudging peach and fennel, panzanella and pickled ramps. Wines, many from nearby vineyards, are suggested and described for every course. Try a Fiscalini Farm cheddar cheese plate paired with tawny port. For dessert, go for sweet goodies enjoyed with strong coffee lightened with Straus cream.
