Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken Restaurant Review:

A take on traditional kettle cooking from the Old South, Honey’s uses big stainless steel drums to fry its chicken, which produces a crackly crust with a pleasant sweetness that seals in the juicy meat. Yes, it’s slightly greasy, but it wouldn’t be fried chicken if it wasn’t. This upscale fast-food joint --- granite countertops, abstract art and contemporary lighting attempt to dress it up --- does boffo business on Culver City’s restaurant row, flanked by dining rooms promoting organic vegetables and low-fat seared ahi. Chicken can be paired with hotcakes, and the fried catfish is nearly as good as the golden-brown bird. Sides include slaw, hand-mashed potatoes and gravy, and some of the best biscuits (moist and fluffy) you’ll ever bite into. Sit on the sidewalk patio, people-watching with a glass of Honey’s lemonade served in a mason jar. For dessert, warm pie --- sweet potato, pecan, apple or blackberry --- comes topped with ice cream.
