THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Hot Dish Restaurant Review

: THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Tucked into a neighborhood with a demographically broad clientele, the restaurant offers a home-style menu that attempts to please multiple palates---seniors and families who dine early, university students and couples seeking a vegan nosh. Fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and pot roast coexist with vegetarian appetizer plates and a few healthier entrées. Begin with a bowl of house-made yam chips, dotted with paprika and spices but slightly burned, obscuring the tang of accompanying vinegar. Other selections are surprisingly carb-heavy, reminiscent of Irish cuisine. A green salad is enhanced with garbanzos and croutons, while a pot roast studded with cubed carrot and winter root veggies is blockaded by a fluffy mound of mashed potatoes. Chicken and dumplings are flavorful in a broth-like base that is fine, but not the gravy one would anticipate. A small but decent wine and beer list, as well as cocktails, round out the offerings.
