![]() : Location, location, location? Here’s a restaurant that puts the kibosh on that old axiom. Buried in a Santa Paula industrial park, Hozy’s boasts New American fare and a surprisingly complete wine list. The owners’ main gig is a company that makes race-car components; when they needed a place to wine and dine international clients, they built their own restaurant --- at the factory. So there’s nothing hip or trendy about the place, nothing to draw scenesters. But the eclectic menu ranges from Prime steaks, dripping with flavor and served with a salt-baked potato the size of a Prius, to duck confit ravioli and crispy Catalina sand dabs. Not to mention pan-fried shishito peppers and Kona Kampachi sashimi. The food-loving owners have fun with their quirky establishment, dining here often and sourcing ingredients from anywhere they please. That may mean cheesecake flown in from New York, lobster from Maine, stone crabs from Florida or local white sea bass sautéed with Santa Paula lemons. The dessert tray is a revolving door of temptations. House-made dishes such as white chocolate macadamia nut mousse cake are presented alongside blueberry cobbler and caramel-sweet tarte Tatin from L.A.’s finest bakeries. |
