THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Hukilau Lanai Restaurant Review:
A casual, airy setting, much like sitting out on a friends pleasant lanai, make this restaurant very relaxing and enjoyable. The ambience and the service are both island-style, meaning its laid back and moves at a slow pace, but thats a good thing, not a detraction. This is a place where you can just hang out and have a nice leisurely meal, and the food is original and well-prepared. Its also a nice place to have a drink and appetizers, as the torch-lit lanai overlooks the ocean and Hawaiian music is performed nightly. Pupus include shrimp bisque, Mongolian lamb baby back ribs, and sweet potato ravioli. Salads are grilled ahi, Kilauea greens with goat cheese, Caesar and mixed greens, in full and half portions. Entrées run the gamut from rib-eye steak to shiitake mushroom meat loaf, sugar cane shrimp and mango chicken grilled on a skewer. They also serve several types of island fish each day, like opah, ahi and wahoo or whatever is good and fresh, as well as a mixed fish plate for those times when its hard to choose. Desserts are excellent and original: dont miss the goat cheese crème brûlée or a fabulous cake made from Big Island chocolate and served warm.
