If you live nearby, you’ll meet neighbors. If you come from across town, you’ll make friends with the next table. That’s the charm of Iovino’s Café, a neighborhood eatery with European style. For owners Jeff Iovino, who is the chef, and his wife, Carol, who runs the front of the house, the café fulfills a dream. The décor is modern and minimalist, spacing is tight, and the noise level, unsurprisingly, tests diners’ decibel tolerance. But regulars pack the place seeking comfortable favorites and the kitchen’s bent for creative adventure. Lighter fare appears for lunch. Dinner makes major forays into an eclectic, seasonal banquet of innovative international flavors. Choices range from grilled Mediterranean bronzino with crispy Parmesan polenta cake to locally made sheep's milk pappardelle, with braised lamb ragù, onions, garlic, rapini and shaved Parmesan. Desserts encompass classic crème brûlée or chocolate hazelnut mousse in chocolate lime tuiles with berries and brandy. Note: The restaurant acquired a liquor license and now has a full bar and modest wine list.
