THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Jackson Diner Restaurant Review:
An Indian culinary institution in Jackson Heights, Queens, since 1983, Jackson Diner expanded to Manhattan in early 2011. This location, between Union Square and Washington Square, doesn’t have the same outer-borough pizzazz as the original, and the all-you-can-eat buffet (what Jackson Diner is known for) isn’t as large as the first place, either. While the food at the Queens outpost is good enough to warrant a cross-borough trek, the Manhattan outlet is a disappointment, as the usual suspects --- sag paneer, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken --- are mediocre and no different from any other Indian buffet spot in the neighborhood. During lunch, though, the restaurant sometimes offers two-for-one martinis, which can certainly help wash down the subpar food.
