Jaguar Ceviche Spoon Bar & Latam Grill Restaurant Review:
A stone’s throw from Coconut Grove’s shopping-entertainment complex Cocowalk, this self-christened “Latam” (Latin American) resto-lounge is a far better bet for a post-movie bite than the mall’s touristy eateries. Admittedly, Jaguar’s full name is a mouthful, but that can help you to remember that the menu’s best items---diced ceviches and thin-sliced tiraditos, served in porcelain spoons--are also just a mouthful each. About six types are served daily, some traditional long-marinated types (like Classic Ceviche Peruano), others “new style” Latin-Asian fusion creations such as Oriental Yellow Fin Tuna Ceviche, flash-marinated in ginger, soy, limes, roasted jalapeños and cilantro, then finished with avocado and sesame seeds. On the rest of the Mexican and Pan Latin menu, the elaborate salads and authentic taqueria items are more interesting than seafood entrées and regulation parrillada steaks. But none have the finesse of a spoon sampler meal, with a michelada (Mexican beer with salsas and lime).
