THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Jefferson Restaurant Restaurant Review

: Hushed and stately are not two words we use lightly but they both apply to the small, decorous dining room at The Jefferson hotel. Outfitted in handsome woods and leather, the room with its private nooks suggests intimate confabs and discreet dalliances, but the serious gastronome will have thoughts about the menu instead. The brunch menu presents several worthy choices including an outstanding crab cake (also on the lunch and dinner menus) that has the distinction of showing off a gently-seasoned custard-y interior of pure crab meat, and little fill. As a main dish, you can't go wrong with the fruit-garnished Belgian waffle with its scent of vanilla. Menus are seasonal, but in the evening you may find oysters or foie gras to start followed by grilled beef tenderloin, tempura soft-shell crabs and herb-roasted free-range chicken. Under the direction of executive chef Andrew Saba, the kitchen may make a few missteps, but in general, the food is excellent and the service both quiet and courteous.
