There is no building---no chairs or tables either---at the corner of Scenic Highway (GA 124) and Everson Road in Snellville. Jimmy Lee Stokes, barbecue man without peer, tends a huge smoker that infuses the meat with just the right amount of perfume from the wood, and wife Velma and daughter Shirley monitor the money and the orders from an adjacent trailer. Knowledgeable barbecue fanatics beat a path to this spot, sit on the hoods of their cars or on the ground or stand around and feast on the offerings. Or take it all home where hungry hoards must be waiting. The pork roast is a meltingly tender piece of juicy, deeply smoked meat, and the ribs are perfect finger-lickers. The chicken also is a stand-out. On a 1-10 scale, this hits 10 every time. The lightly spicy hot Tangy Wangy barbecue sauce is excellent, but it’s almost gilding the lily, because this meat is so perfect. We like to blend it two parts regular sauce with one part hot to get the ideal kick. Don’t pass up the potato casserole. Ask about Jimmy’s catering.
