![]() : International fame has not changed this riverfront treasure one bit. The road-stand décor is still spare and unremarkable, but it hardly matters to the customers lining up from the 9 a.m. opening for a taste of the sandwiches. There's the namesake, slow-roasted pork butt tucked into a delightfully seeded Carangi roll with peppery broccoli rabe and melty provolone (sharp is the way to go). Another great bet is the cheesesteak. Made with seasoned rib-eye and an ample portion of cheese (it's a decidedly grown-up choice of American or provolone; no Whiz on the premises), this is a first-rate specimen. There are egg sandwiches here, too, topped with Italian sausage or local delicacy Taylor pork roll. A small menu of cold hoagies, burgers and fishcake sandwiches rounds out the offerings. Go early, order ahead or prepare for a very worthwhile wait. |
