About the restaurant & décor: Although small, this friendly spot in Memorial Villages is charming with its wooden tables and chairs, polished concrete floors and painted walls. Jonathan’s The Rub caters to hungry families and is owned by chef Jonathan Levine and run with the aid of his son and daughter.

Food & Drinks: Levine’s menu reflects his background and personal tastes: steaks with his signature rub, which is so popular it can be purchased for take-home at the restaurant; seafood; and South Brooklyn Italian fare. Start with the spicy barbecue shrimp or lobster tacos. Then move on to the entrées; we suggest the Gulf Coast red fish Pontchartrain, but hearty eaters zero in on the 20-ounce, bone-in rib-eye with au jus. A lighter option could be the blackened shrimp and grits, eggplant Parmesan or country fried chicken. As for sides, The Rub is known for its fries, but choose from sautéed vegetables as well. Beer and wine are available. Desserts are house-made. Ask your server about the daily food specials. The Rub offers local high school kids a special lunch deal.
