High, gilded ceilings and rich fabrics, oil paintings and tinkling ivories---though the adjacent dining room is now closed to the public, The Langham, Boston's bar and lounge remains on the radars of downtown dealmakers and rich romantics for its exceeding elegance above all. Distinguished servers discreetly deliver cocktails from an engrossing, 101-strong list, along with bar snacks that are, of course, barely recognizable as such, swathed as they are in the stuff of wealth. You’ll pay upwards of entrée prices for the thoughtfully luxe likes of oysters stuffed with ham-leek gratin, jumbo American Kobe dogs moistened with house-made baked beans and green-tomato piccalilli and far-from-Philly cheesesteaks made with sirloin and Roquefort. But then, your ultra-civilized experience will be as complete and satisfying as any so-called square meal at a lesser eatery.
