Kentlands features it own almost-Peruvian restaurant, a small place struggling to find its identity and establish its menu. When the kitchen sticks to its native cooking, the flavors and dishes are spot on. Take the papa a la huancaina (boiled potatoes with a yellow cream sauce) and the chicharon con yuca (fried pork bits served with cooked yuca and a Creole salsa)---both are compliments to Peruvian cooking. But among the salad offerings the cook loses the way, with the niçoise, Caesar, endive, goat cheese, and fajita salads. Even the entrée linguine with shrimp and roasted duck seem more North than South American. However, don’t despair. The homemade desserts are a triumph, especially the crème caramel with its heavy cream with an orange-spiked sugar syrup for moistening each bite.
