Bars and grills---even pizza places---are all well and good, but sometimes the urge comes for a cloth napkin and food with a modern edge. Here’s your place. The small bar seems home mostly to local residents; in the mural-laden dining room, you won’t be surprised to find a group of office mates in one corner, people en route to a hockey game, and middle-aged foursomes sharing vacation stories in another. What's on their plates? The menu shifts often but handles beef well, even something as mundane as a steak bearing an eminently respectable demi-glace. A word of warning: many of the small plates-appetizer items appear as sides with the main courses. Pay attention to avoid duplication. Desserts are riffs on home-style items, and mostly are worthwhile.
