Run by the Thanki family, from Kathia Wahd in Gujarat via East Africa, Kastoori offers many interesting, unknown and satisfying dishes. These range from simple starters like mogo (fried cassava chips with tamarind sauce) and the restaurant’s signature vegetable-filled samosas to panir passanda (panir cheese parcels stuffed with mint, coriander and coconut in a cashew and melon seed sauce). There are good breads and rice dishes or go for the thalis (fixed meals, a great value from £8.95 to £16.50).
