Pete and George Salwan have run this Cleveland Heights bar---cozy, smoke-free and done up in the knotty pine from which it draws its name---for nearly 40 years. The bar stocks a decent selection of top-shelf liquor, and the bar food here is done with a lot of care and a bit of flair, which is why the place is always crowded at mealtime with truckers, tradesmen, local pols and the arty types who call Cleveland Heights home. The house's hot corned beef on rye and Friday fish fry are bestsellers, but the fish filet sandwich, burgers, meatloaf platter and sweet-and-spicy chili are all good choices. You also might find tender roast beef or spiced chopped steak on the list of daily specials. Dollar draft night---Thursday---is not to be missed, but arrive early to get a table.
