![]() Kona Brewing Company Restaurant Review: What started out as a local brewing company in 1995 has grown into a happy eatery and hangout for Kona's residents, hungry for fresh ingredients on hand-tossed pizzas and the best of cold beers. The Brew Pub, as the restaurant is commonly known, serves customers mostly on a 2,000-foot outdoor terrace shaded by large umbrellas, but the U-shaped koa bar inside is well worth looking at, as much for the characters it draws as for its design. The pizzas, sandwiches, salads and pupus are first-rate: bread and focaccia variations are made with spent grain, greens are local and organic, and ingredients are homemade and fresh. We cannot resist the shrimp-melt sandwich or the Puna Pie with smoked mozzarella, Gorgonzola and roast garlic. As for drinks, the Castaway IPA opens your eyes, and the non-alcoholic, locally-made organic gingerade is worth a visit all on its own. |
