THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kyotofu Restaurant Review:

It's easy to discourage the dessert-first approach to life, but at Kyotofu, it’s rather encouraged. This sliver of a restaurant on Ninth Avenue, with a handful of seats and a tidy, modern interior incorporating white leather banquettes and wood, uses exotic Japanese ingredients in unlikely pairings. The results are mostly successful, usually when the fresh, house-made tofu is involved. It appears first in a chilled form, where diners scoop a piece from a wobbling white dome and dip it in a duo of sweet and savory sauces, combining the flavors in a delightful succession. The versions of traditional Japanese dishes provide mixed results, like the slider made with teriyaki chicken, but the desserts---where the tofu reappears---are more interesting. Black sesame sweet tofu with a sugar syrup and goji berry is a standout; it works as a clever dessert, not just as something that incorporates tofu. Also worth a try is the dense, rich, mochi chocolate cake, but avoid the tofu cheesecake that misses the mark and has an odd texture. The staff is informative in regard to the well curated saké list.
